YOU CAN HELP US BREAK CYCLES OF POVERTY, EARLY MARRIAGE AND SPIRALING POPULATION GROWTH THROUGH THE GIFT OF EDUCATION.

This is Irumbu Abel. As one  of  the 123 children who have qualified for a Kasiisi Project Scholarship since 1997, Abel represents for us a truly successful example of what  our scholarship program strives to provide for our students: he is educated, employed and smiling.

Of all the wonderful programs that we support that help our children become happy, healthy and  successful adults , nothing  we do has more direct positive impact on the lives of our students and their families than our scholarship program.

Orphaned young and  exploited by an  uncle who used him as a source of unpaid labor, Abel was particularly vulnerable, but the Kasiisi Project Scholarship Committee provided the help and support he needed to live alone during his school holidays and he successfully graduated from High School. With the Scholarship committee providing  further guidance Abel then chose a 2 years agricultural technician course.   Now finished with the first stage of his post-secondary education he has returned to work for the Kasiisi Project as the manager of our farm. His future holds further education, financial security and independence.

Because of the generous person who paid Abel’s school fees he has been saved from a life of drudgery and poverty.

Not all our children are as vulnerable as Abel was but all need help to get them the good education  that their families cannot afford. They are smart and motivated but without our assistance many drop out after primary school – the girls to marry too young: over half of Ugandan girls have their first baby before 18, with figures much higher in rural areas – and the boys to scraping a living from ever smaller and less fertile patches of land, unable to provide a secure future for their own children. Our scholarship program helps break this cycle of poverty. Alumni include nurses, teachers, plumbers, doctors,  lab technicians, electricians and beauticians. We have 4 university graduates and 4 more on the way. Over 90%  have jobs.

These success rates  reflect the  high expectations we set for our scholars and close mentoring and career guidance they receive from our scholarship committee.

BUT WE CANNOT DO IT WITHOUT YOU!

CAN YOU HELP A CHILD LIKE ABEL ?

FOR LESS THAN $3 A DAY (THE PRICE OF ONE CUP OF COFFEE) YOU CAN PROVIDE A CHILD WITH A SECURE FUTURE, CONFIDENT  THEY WILL THE RECEIVE SUPPORT AND GUIDANCE THEY NEED TO HELP THEM SUCCEED.

As a sponsor you will receive biographies, photographs, and reports on your student’s academic progress 3 times a year. You can be sure that your student will receive all the  “wrap around” support  they  need to help them be successful; medical, academic and very often family assistance. This has included committee members housing students during the holidays to keep them safe from abuse at home.  Of course we cannot guarantee 100% success – these children face huge hurdles, academic and personal,  but our low drop-out rates are testimony to the care they get from our Scholarship Committee.
